Effects of Water Extract of Cibotii Rhizoma on Serum Sex Hormone Levels in Ovariectomized Rats

Abstract

|
The effect of water extract of Cibotii Rhizoma on the levels of serum sex hormones and uterine weight were investigated in ovariectomized(OVX) rats. Female Sprague-Dawley rats with a body weight of 240 g were undergone ovariectomy or sham operation. The ovariectomy caused significant decrease in serum levels of estrogen androstenedione, testosterone and in uterine weight compared to those of sham-operated animals. Administration of water extract of Cibotii Rhizoma significantly elevated ovariectomy-induced decrease in serum levels of estrogen, androstenedione, testosterone. These findings suggest the protective effect water extract of Cibotii Rhizoma against bone low in postmenopausal osteoporosis.
